Frequently Asked Questions

Embarking on a luxury yacht sfari in Mozambique for the first time will cause plenty of excitement and you will probably have plenty of questions regarding the journey, the boat, the weather and more. So we have tried to answer these as best as we can before you have to contact us.

  • What clothing should I pack?

Mozambique is generally a very warm destination but cruising on a luxury yacht may be cooler. You need to wear loose-fitting clothes which allow your body to breathe, in humid and dry conditions. You need to be protected from the sun and the wind, not to mention the mosquitoes. Evenings can be cool, especially when on board a yacht on the ocean so remember to pack some warm cardigans, jackets and jerseys. Bring a rain jacket for the mornings and evenings and the spray off the sea. Don’t forget your hat, sunglasses, open and closed shoes, camera, binoculars, sunscreen and batteries – just in case!

  • What documents do I need to bring?

You need your passport and Visa (though citizens from several African countries don’t need a visa but please check this with your travel agent). In Mozambique you need a yellow fever vaccination certificate if you want entry which you should do before you leave your country of residence.

  • What health plans should I make in advance?

You need to get your yellow fever vaccination, as well as your typhoid, hepatitis B and other vaccinations at least 4 to 6 weeks before leaving for Mozambique. Be sure to pack copies of these certificates, along with the originals, for use at border posts. Remember to get anti-malaria medication too. Secure personal medical insurance with your travel agent just in case.

  • How safe will I be?

Mozambique is known as a friendly, safe country but just keep your wits about you as you would in any strange place. Your experienced and professional crew and skipper on board your Mozambique Yacht Safari will ensure your personal safety while you sail.

  • What happens if there is a storm?

Your professional crew and skipper are trained to deal with storms and can always anchor the yacht in the lee of an island for a while until the storm passes. Simply listen to all suggestions from the crew should there be a storm and remain calm at all times.

  • I want to dive / snorkel / kayak during this sailing holiday but am nervous?

Your Mozambique yacht safari is all about having fun and learning more about the fantastic island environment in which you find yourself for a week or so. This means that your highly trained skipper and crew will assist you with all water sports from the yacht. You will dive in regions for beginners if you are nervous and we will assist you to snorkel and kayak in safe areas.

  • How do I get to and from Pemba / Vilanculos to start and end my yacht safari?

We will sort out all transfers from the relevant airports. Meanwhile, LAM is the only Mozambique-based airline to offer both domestic and international flights out of Mozambique, from Maputo, Biera, Nampula and Pemba. South African Airlines also offer flights in and out of Mozambique while a small Mozambique airline called Transairways deals with domestic flights between some cities. Kenya Airways (kenya-airways.com) also offers international flights out of both Pemba and Maputa while Ethiopian Airlines (flyethiopian.com) offers international flights out of Maputo.
